Is it a week already? By 'eck! Time for some rambling, then.
As always, I've been very busy with artists and sculptors, but this week has also seen an uptick in interactions with programmers (for this very website) and idiotic delivery drivers that leave packages outside our back door overnight. I mean... why?
Arting
I've had a couple of nice bits of artwork land on my desk this week from Tommaso Lucchetti and Quinn Colvin; Tommaso is concentrating on works for the Conand realm of the Fomoraic - the sea devils! - and are top secret for now, but I can show you Quinn's work!
Quinn Colvin is a new artist to Darklands and as well as a quick sketch of the Ograx Ravager poses for the sculptor (these will feature in next month's battle host),
(found a way to increase the size of the image here, and you can click it for a larger version).
he's been drawing the first in a series of character studies for Mierce - ostensibly intended for the long-awaited lore book, Savage Hordes, but which I'll happily use in the upcoming 2024 compendium too. Simply put, he's drawing/colouring each kindred's head nob (to use an Ork term), starting with yours truly, which you can see below.
That means he'll be doing the following in short order...
- Albainn - Talorc MacUuid
- Atalantes - Alexandra the Saviour
- Brythoniaid - Cadwaladr the Blessed
- Byzantii - Constantine III
- Érainn - Conall Cóel
- Fomoraic - Baalor
- Jutes - Eorcenbehrt
- Khthones - Ophios
- Norse - Ingjald Ill-Ruler
- Ysians - Euryalia
Some of these have never been drawn before, nor imagined as a miniature, so I'm very excited to see these realised. I will get to the realm nobs at some point, too... and the other kindreds of northwest Europe...!
And no, I don't have much in the way of plans for any new kindreds at the moment, before you all ask. Don't Mordian me.
Sculpting
As always, we've some lovely new miniatures to show you.
Rafael Callegari's finished the first cawrdraig, Aradae Mawr, and he'll be working on the remaining members of the unit (and the prifcawrdraig, Casineg) in the coming weeks. To say I'm excited about these guys is an understatement - I can finally get some of them in my Anglecynn host!
Ivan Flaman's been doing some ogrish works for next month's Ograx of Baalor battle host and they are looking... well, ogrish!
He's beavering away on the rest of the unit as I write and will be doing the ograx ravagers shortly. There may be a little delay in getting these ready for the start of next month, simply because he's moved house, which is always fraught with annoyances and time-consuming things.
Compendiuming
I've been working on the new compendium for a few weeks now and it's taking a little time because a) I foolishly decided to change the fonts I use for Darklands this year and b) I'm waiting for Quinn's warlord artwork to get things looking even lovelier than they usually are.
I should have the contents pretty much sorted by the middle of October, and hopefully Quinn will have finished all the warlords I need by the end of October; so I reckon this will be a lovely Christmas present for you all... if you order it physically, of course!
Subscripting
I've been working with the developers of the subscription app on shopify this week, as it hasn't been working as expected. Simply put, and rather confusingly, customers that have subscribed haven't actually subscribed!
The programmers have fixed it now, but unfortunately anybody who has purchased a subscription product will have to do some re-subscribing shortly, although payment won't be taken until the 1st of October. You'll get an e-mail if you've purchased a subscription requesting this.
Speaking of programmers, I've employed someone to do some cosmetic changes to this webstore so that it has the functionality of the old one (order by SKU, contents, sculptor info, etc. etc.), so watch for news on that in the coming weeks.
That's all for today, fellow Miercenaries... so until next week, keep it Mierce!
