The Dēora suffered a similar fate to the Beornice for once their kingdoms were united the Christians persecuted all of the pagans within Northumbraland, and so the Dēora - the deer people - were either enslaved or exiled, and most chose to join the Miercna in their struggle to survive and hold true to the old gods. Like all the Anglecynn the Dēora are shape-shifters, able to become an animal form; and whilst there are hybrids, Werdēra, most Dēora choose to change their form fully. The danger with doing so is that many remain in deer form for too long, for months, sometimes years, so that they forget their human selves and roam the forests and the hills hooved and antlered until the end of their days.
